Forest Dale Ironworks Details

This historic 19th-century smelting facility was used heavily between 1810 and 1855 before it was shut down due to outdated methods. Although it has not been used since (except for one small stint in 1865), the ruins of this former furnace stack still stand in Brandon on the northern side of Vermont Route 73. The brick structure stands approximately 60-feet tall with 8-foot wide arches on each wall around the base. During its peak, it produced over 1,200 tons of pig iron and an additional 800 stove castings.
