East Middlebury Gorge Details
Because most people come here for the magnificent rocky outcroppings or historic arch bridge, this gorge is often overlooked as a good swimming destination. However, the cool waters and calm rapids of the Middlebury River are great for escaping the hot summer heat and the surrounding views aren't too shabby either! Parts of the river are perfectly shallow and calm, so it is great for those with small kids. More adventurous swimmers jump off the 10-foot ledge into the deeper part of the river while letting the current carry them a bit downstream.
