Passing through Groton, Marshfield, Peacham, and Ryegate, this trail follows the former route of the Montpelier-Wells line that carried rocks and granite from the nearby mines in Barre. This 19-mile stretch of trail is largely undeveloped, which means it can get muddy and rough, especially through sections of the Groton State Forest. Besides pedaling through the enchanting forest, you will also have some water views over the Wells and Connecticut Rivers. Bring a lunch and find a cozy place to stop along the river where you can soak in the tranquil atmosphere of this beautiful area.
