This converted cycling trail travels along the former Rutland and Washington Railroad line that was used from 1850 until 1983. It was used to carry rocks and other materials, which is evident by the surrounding Slate Valley and quarrying businesses. The entire trail is almost 26-miles, although there is a 4-mile gap when the path weaves across the border to New York. Highlights along the way include the Castleton campus, the town center of Poultney, the Mettawee River, and Granville, New York.
