Although there are several trails to reach the summit of Vermonts highest mountain, this section of the iconic Long Trail is by far one of the most popular. Over the course of 2.4-miles, you will climb nearly 2,800 feet by walking up steep steps or scrambling across boulders (thankfully, some of the sections have built-in handholds). The whole trip can take you a full day, although you can break up the journey and stay at the lodge near the summit. It is worth taking the extra time to soak in the sweeping views from the top.
