Augustus Saint-Gaudens was one of the greatest American sculptors -- the Adams Memorial in Washington, D.C. and the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial in Boston are among his finest works -- and also designed the 1907 gold "double eagle" coin, considered the most beautiful piece of numismatic art ever produced in the U.S. Saint-Gaudens Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park in Cornish, New Hampshire, preserves the house and studio where Saint-Gaudens lived the last seven years of his life and became the center of the Cornish Art Colony. Visitors can tour the home, studio and gardens as well as hiking a pair of nature trails and viewing a variety of Saint-Gaudens sculptures on display. An artist-in-residence program brings sculptors to the park each summer, and classical music concerts are held on the ground in July and August, as well.
