Mount Monadnock Details
This mountain is easily the most recognizable natural feature in Southern New Hampshire. Besides having a completely “bald” peak, it also stands 3,165-feet above sea level, almost 1,000-feet higher than any other mountain for miles. Hiking is the most popular activity on the slopes, although snowshoeing, backcountry skiing and camping are all possible as well. The hike to the summit is only a 4-hours round trip, so it's doable even for those with little to no backpacking experience. The views from the top and along the trails are stunning, which is why this mountain was a popular spot for many literary thinkers like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller.
