Lakes of the Clouds Details

Sandwiched in between Mount Washington and Mount Monroe, these glistening lakes rest high in the White Mountains National Forest. They are approximately 5,000-feet above sea level, making them some of the highest natural bodies of water in the state. And whiles the views are breathtaking, they do come at a price. The 4.5-mile trek to see them is very challenging, usually taking even the most experienced climbers between 5 to 6 hours to complete. There is a lot of scrambling and climbing over boulders, and the last mile is practically vertical up the side of the cliff. Once you do reach the top, you can relax at the Lake of Clouds Hut, the highest and largest hut in the AMC system.
