This 4.1-mile segment of the Granite Slate Rail Trail starts in Salem and ends in Windham. It follows the former Manchester and Lawrence Branch that traveled from New Hampshire to Massachusetts for over 130 years until it was decommissioned in 1980. A large portion of the journey is woody and shaded, although there are farms, apple orchards, wetland marshes, and ponds to see too. Deer, owls, and turtles are known to live in this area, so watch where you are peddling while crossing through this natural area.
