Ashuelot Rail Trail Details

This 21-mile cycling path is a scenic route that connects the town of Keene with Hinsdale. It was once the site of a railroad that operated from 1851 until 1983, transferring raw supplies from the mills to the market. But unlike other rail to trail roads, this one is extremely rough, so it is recommended to have a mountain bike to tackle all the potholes and puddles. Along the way, you will see the Ashuelot River, historic 200-year old bridges, and old abandoned sawmills. There are also many buildings from this trails railway past, including an old boxcar lining the side of the road.
