One of the more challenging albeit rewarding routes up Mount Washington is via this 9-mile round trip trail. Leaving from the western side of the mountain, the first part of the trail is relatively easy as it crosses Franklin Brook along the Ammonoosuc River. Enjoy the flat terrain while you can because soon you will make a sharp ascent up rocks and stairs until you reach the Lakes of the Clouds hut. The summit is another 1.5-miles past the hut, and while it is not as strenuous as before, there are some stairs and steep sections to cross. Enjoy the breathtaking views from the top and be proud that you summited the highest mountain in New Hampshire!
