Crawford Path Details

This 8.5-mile trek is considered to be the oldest hiking trail in the state. It was carved by the Crawford family in 1819 as means to get from their house to the summit of Mount Washington. You can retrace their 200-year old steps as you follow the same route up 4,900-feet to the tallest mountain in New Hampshire. The first 3.1 miles of the journey are through the woods, with dense foliage and canopied tops providing shade from the natural elements. However, the forest ends as you ascend above the tree line to the southern ridge of the Presidential Range. Keep in mind you will need to make the 8.5-mile walk back so it is best to allow two days for the entire trip.
