Most hikers choose to start their trip at the northernmost peak of Mount Madison and ending in the south at Mount Eisenhower. The entire trip has an elevation gain of 9,000 feet, with a large portion of that coming from New Hampshire's tallest mountain, Mount Washington. Along the way, there are campgrounds and huts where you can spend the night. Keep in mind that while it is not difficult, the length of the trail can be challenging for many hikers.
