Brasstown Bald Details
Protruding over 4,784-feet above sea level, this mountainous summit is the highest point in the state. From the observation deck at the top, you will have 360-degree views of the Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest, as well as the Southern Appalachian Mountains and Valleys below. If you are lucky enough to visit on a clear day, you will even see the state lines of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. You can visit the peak via a shuttle bus or by hiking a short but steep ½ mile nature trail. This mountain is also spiritually significant to Cherokee tribes. Legend has it that early tribes moved to the peak to avoid a flood that swept through the land. Since the mountain lacked any wild game for hunting, the Great Spirit cleared the trees from the summit so the people could plant crops and live from the product instead.
