Summit Trail Details

This beginner and family-friendly 1.5-mile hike loops around Fort Mountain State Park, treating you to sweeping, dramatic views over the Cohutta Wilderness right off the bat. However, those views are nothing compared to what you will see from the four-story stone tower that sits near the 1.2-mile mark. Continue past the outlook, and you will also see a stone wall that extends for almost 900-feet along the trail. There is great debate about the history of this mysterious wall some archeologists believe it was built by Welsh settlers while others say it's the work of local Native American tribes. Regardless of who built it, it is still a glimpse into history that makes a unique stop during your hike along this trail.
