Russell-Brasstown National Scenic Byway

For picture-perfect views of Georgias Appalachian Mountains, spend the day driving along this 40.6-mile looping byway. The road starts in the town of Helen and loops through the dense wilderness of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. It is worth taking the short detour to say hi to Brasstown Bald, which at 4,784-feet high is the tallest peak in the state. From there, you will make your way back down south through the Raven Cliffs Wilderness. Hikers might consider stopping to trek along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, although they are still plenty of beautiful forests and creeks to look at closer to Helen.
