Historic Piedmont Scenic Byway

Traveling from east to west, this 85-mile from Putnam County to Hancock County is a great ride for seeing Georgias history, nature, and culture. You will travel along the Oconee River and through vast pastures and farmlands while also having the chance to spend the day outdoors at Lake Oconee or Lake Sinclair. This path also winds along what once was a Native American trading route, which means you can see plenty of historic sites as well. Stop by the archeological excavations at the Shoulderabone Mounds, learn about the life of legendary writer Joel Chandler Harris at the Uncle Remus Museum, or take a tour of Georgias last remaining water-powered mill at Ogeechee River Mill.
