Morrow Plots Details
Established in 1876, this cornfield is the oldest experimental field in the country. It Is located on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus and was originally used to study how rotating crops seasonally (from corn, oats, soybeans, and alfalfa) impacted soil quality. Over the years, the size of the field was downsized to just a 1/3 of what it originally was in the 1800s. Currently, one plot grows corn while the other two rotate between different types of crops each season. The produce is still used to research new farming and agricultural practices.
