Clarence F. Buckingham Fountain Details
Perched in the center of Grant Park in downtown Chicago, this rococo wedding cake-styled fountain is one of the largest in the world. It was donated to the city by art collector Kate Sturges Buckingham in 1927 and has since become one of the most iconic symbols of the city. From mid-April to mid-October, the fountain performs hourly shows choreographed to lights and music. And although it is not turned on in winter, it is still decorated in a string of colorful, festive lights. It contains a total of 193 jets that use approximately 14,000 gallons of water per minute. The most impressive is the center jet, which can spray a stream of water up to 150-feet in the air.
