Calumet Beach Details

This beautiful beach was over 30 years in the making. Construction was planned for 1903 as part of the South Park Commission system but was delayed until the mid-1930s after a huge influx of foreign settlers migrated to southern Chicago. The water is not as clean as you might find on other beaches, although there are lifeguards during the summer in case you decide to go for a dip. However, it is relatively less busy which makes it a great place to enjoy the summer sun in solitude.
