Connecting Chicago Heights with Joliet, this 21.7-mile bike path travels along with the former Joliet and Northern Indiana Railroad that run until the early 1900s. It is a beautiful ride through grasslands, wildflower fields, and oak and sugar maple groves that also has plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities. Bald eagles, beavers, muskrats, and even coyotes are commonly seen wandering through the area. The second part of the trail is more residential as it winds through the town of Frankfort. It is worth taking a break to visit the historical city center or to grab a quick bite to eat at one of the many cafes and restaurants. Your journey ends with an 8-mile jaunt through the outskirts of Joliet. This is also a residential area, although the trees somewhat buffer your view of the homes and businesses.
