Vadalabene Bikeway

Known for its picturesque riverfront views, this 20-mile trail is great for an early morning or late afternoon ride. You can park and start your trip in Gafton at Pere Marquette State Park, the largest park in the state. From there, you will snake along the banks of the Illinois River until it meets the Mississippi. The next 8 miles run parallel to this mighty river as it passes Elsah, a town that holds National Register of Historic Places status for its charming mid-19th-century buildings. Once you arrive at the ending point in Alton, you can turn back around or extend your ride along the Katy or Confluence Trails.
