Old Chain of Rocks Bridge

At just 1-mile long, this cycling path is less about the journey and more about seeing one of Illinois’ most iconic bridges. It was built in 1929 and used to shuttle people driving from Illinois to Missouri, although it was shut down over funding issues and converted into a cycling and walking path in 1998. You are guaranteed to see spectacular views of the St. Louis skyline as you cycle across the bridge. There are also a few pieces of Route 66 memorabilia and interpretive signs telling the story of the bridge is history. From there, you can continue your adventure down the St. Louis Riverfront Trail, or you can head back to the Illinois side to peddle the Eagle Points or Madison County Transit Confluence Trails.
