This short but challenging hike through the Shawnee National Forest gives you front-row seats to one of the coolest geological structures in Southern Illinois. After a quick ¼ mile hike through canyons and boulders, you will come to a clearing where you will have dramatic views over the sculpted sandstone rocks and lush tree canopies. From here, you will be able to see three of the most iconic formations in the park Anvil Rock, Mushroom Rock, and Camel Rock. It can be very busy on the weekends during the afternoon, although you can also come during sunset if you want to see something even more spectacular.
