Mountain weather can be unpredictable, and beautiful sunny days can often become wet and windy in a matter of minutes. Visitors should be prepared for changing conditions, and carry a few essentials, including raingear, maps and compasses, flashlights, sunscreen, matches, extra food, water, and clothing, a small knife or pocketknife, and a first aid kit. Be aware of the clouds in the sky, as they can often give some warning for approaching storms, and known what to do should a snow, wind, or lightning storm arise. Visitors are also encouraged to check with rangers or other reliable sources for weather forecasts.
