Trujillo Homestead Details

When Teofilo Trujillo moved to the San Luis Valley in 1865, he never imagined that his homestead would play such a pivotal role in Hispano-American culture. Without speaking a word of English, he managed to become a successful sheep and cattle rancher while also growing tobacco and wheat on their 1,500-acre property. The homestead itself is only 11-acres, although it still contains the original log cabin that was built by Trujillos son. You can visit it yourself (and even book an overnight stay at the neighboring lodge) by visiting the Nature Conservancys Zapata Ranch in Hooper.
