Mount Elbert Details

Dominating the Rocky Mountain skyline is the mighty 14,440-foot peak of this snow-striped mountain. Not only is it the highest mountain in Colorado, but it also happens to be the second-tallest peak in the entire country. As such, it is a wonderland of adventure for numerous outdoor activities including hiking, rock climbing, and even mountain biking. More experienced trekkers can attempt the Class 2 Black Cloud Trail which gains over 5,000-feet in elevation over its 5.5-mile ascent. Despite being challenging and time-consuming, it does not require any special mountaineering skills, which makes it one of the easiest summits to climb compared to the other 14ers.
