Snow & Ice Fields

Many areas in Rocky Mountain National Park are covered in snow during the early and later part of the season, as well as the winter months, and while these areas may be open to visitors, it is important to use some caution when walking in them. Stay away from the steeper snow slopes and cornices, and ask rangers about current avalanche conditions, as avalanches occur frequently and can be extremely dangerous. Always be prepared for the possibility of sudden snowfall.
