Trappers Lake Details

Colorados second-largest lake boasts unobstructed views of the dramatic Flattop Mountains, including an unusual 1,650-foot amphitheater-shaped peak that sits on the edge of the shore. This lake is so stunning that it convinced Forest Service surveyors to abandon the plan to create luxury homes and fight for wilderness protection instead. That event was believed to inspire the US Wilderness Prevention Act of 1964. During your visit, you can go hiking, swimming, horseback riding, and fishing. In fact, it is one of the best places to find Cutthroat trout (although if you happen to reel one in, you will be required to release it before you go).
