Hypothermia, the result of exhaustion and exposure to cold or wet weather, is a very real threat in the Rocky Mountains. All visitors should be prepared for thundershowers and cool night temperatures by layering clothing, eating and drinking often, and avoiding wet weather. Symptoms of hypothermia include intense shivering and poor muscle control, and treatment for possible hypothermia requires the replacement of wet gear, drinking warm liquids, and using body contact to increase body temperatures.
