This moderately difficult trail tests hiker's grit, as the last 2 miles of the approximately 12-mile hike are extremely steep, gaining nearly 3,000 vertical feet. The payoff is the serene setting and hot springs. The trailhead has a parking area but can accommodate less than 30 cars. Hikers are highly encouraged to bring bear canisters, as bears are commonplace in this region. The trail has a multitude of river and creek crossings, so bring a couple of pairs of boots or shoes. Permits are required for camping, and rangers frequent the area. The hot springs are roughly 11,000 feet above sea level, and many visitors consider the springs to be clothing-optional.
