Mount Elbert Details

Hiking to the top of Colorados highest peak is no easy feat, although it is guaranteed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that most trekkers can only dream about. Over the 9 mile journey, you will ascend over 4,500-feet where you will be treated to unobstructed 360-degrees views of the Rocky Mountains. Although the journey itself is not too difficult, the biggest threat to most hikers is the altitude change. The elevation increases rapidly, which could cause altitude sickness if you are not properly acclimated. In addition, it is important to pay attention to the weather and start the hike early in order to avoid afternoon thunder and lightning storms.
