Pawnee Pioneer Trails Details

Stretching for 128 miles into the heart of the Colorado Piedmont is this fascinating drive around two of Colorados most iconic landmarks. The Pawnee Buttes are soft, clay rock formations that rise 300-feet above the prairie grasslands, creating an awe-inspiringly backdrop as you drive approach them from afar. This area is also a stomping ground for coyotes, rattlesnakes, antelope, and several species of birds like falcons and eagles. From spring to early summer, the buttes are actually off-limits to hikers in order to protect these nesting birds.
