This exciting drive takes you into the heart of one of Colorados most diverse landscapes the San Luis Valley. In just 129 miles, you will see flat, grassy pastures, towering mountain peaks, and even 750-foot sand dunes. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is home to the tallest sand dunes on the continent. It is one of the more unique sights in Colorado, especially considering it’s surrounded by forests and mountains. After leaving the dunes, you will visit San Luis, the oldest town in the state. It was founded in 1851 by Hispanic settlers who came over from New Mexico. Nearby in the town of Antonito, is Colorados oldest church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, which was built in the late 1920s.
