Highway of Legends Details
Traveling through the south of Colorado is an already scenic adventure, but this 80-mile byway makes it even that much more breathtaking. Forested wilderness, snow-capped mountains, and sparkling lakes are just a few of the natural marvels you will come across during your drive. After leaving Walsenburg, you will through the San Isabel National Forest, an extensive 1.1-million-acre region that is home to the tallest peak in the Rocky Mountains. You will then visit the Spanish Peaks, a sacred sight to the Ute, Comanche, and Apache Native American tribes that still reside in the area. The road then passes Chucharas Pass before dropping you off in the town of Trinidad.
