If you are visiting Colorado during the summer, then this 65-mile route should be at the top of your bucket list. Due to the heavy snowfall in the area, it is only open from June to September once the ice has cleared, giving you unobstructed views of the Rockies as you navigate the passes. The peaks of Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn can be seen from the 12,000-foot Engineer Pass, while Cinnamon Pass drives you towards the towering Sunshine, Redcloud, and Handies Mountains. However, mountains are not the only picturesque sights you will see. This loop also takes you through the alpine villages of Ouray, Silverton, and Lake City, as well as through treeless tundras and hot springs.
