Make your way to the south rim of the Grand Canyon by driving along this beautiful, scenic road. To the rim, it is a 31-mile journey from Flagstaff that crosses through the Kaibab National Forest before taking you into the San Francisco Volcanic Field. This area contains over 600 volcanoes and the impressive San Francisco Peaks mountain range, which dominates the skyline from almost every angle. At 12,633-feet tall, Humphrey's Peak is not just the tallest mountain in the park it is the highest point in the entire state of Arizona and you will have front row tickets to see it in all its glory during your drive. After passing the mountains, you will make your descent down to Route 64 for the remaining 22-mile trek to the canyon.
