Patagonia-Sonoita Scenic Road Details
This will easily be one of the most scenically diverse drives you will take in Arizona. Start your journey in Patagonia, where you will find a lush riverbank surrounded by valleys and mountains. You will then venture along Forest Road 49 into the oak-tree-lined Coronado National Forest before encountering Duquesne, a historic mining town. The scenery quickly changes as the road reaches San Rafael Valley, a grassy pasture that looks more like it belongs in the Midwest than in the middle of Arizona. Herds of cattle and lonely ranches are scattered throughout the fields, although the Patagonia Mountains in the background provide something pleasant to look at during your drive. Your final stop is in Sonoita, one of Arizona's premier wine-growing regions. Treat yourself to a glass of Cabernet while you soak in the rolling vineyard views.
