If you are driving to Jerome, you will inevitably cross through the Black Hills are using this scenic road. It weaves through the dramatic formations of Mingus Mountain and takes you through the heavily vegetated woods of the Prescott National Forest. The road, while paved, can be very steep and narrow, so drivers should take extra precautions while traveling down this 11.5-mile route. The switchbacks on the ascent require your full attention (although there is not too much a view to distract you on the way). The real highlight is past the peak. The road opens up and provides sweeping views over the Yeager Canyon and Verde Valley.
