Spend the morning hiking this trail in the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve and get your cardio exercise in for the day. It is a 4.6-mile out-and-back trail with twists and turns through granite rocks and blooming cacti fields. There is also a 300-foot section where you will be required to climb. At the end of the hike is the rewarding view of Toms Thumb, a lump of rock that resembles a protruding finger. In addition, you can peer over the cliff and see the jagged Elephant and Cave Creek Mountains as well as the Tonto National Forest. Make sure to bring a lot of water it is easy to get dehydrated when you are hiking during the day.
