High Island Details

This island is actually a salt dome, and it gets its name for being the highest point on the Gulf Coast (38 feet above sea level). Its unique geology makes it a vital stopping point for migratory birds, and much of the area is used by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to protect and converse the surrounding habitat. You will also find a small beach along the coast, which is suitable for swimming, boating, and fishing. There are also 30 different campsites which can be used year-round by guests for overnight stays.
