Sandwiched between the West Bay and the Gulf of Mexico is this barrier island located in the city of Galveston. It may only be 3 miles wide, although there is plenty of fascinating outdoor activities to keep you entertained if you choose to visit. There are over two dozen different beaches on the island, each one with its own distinct vibe and personality. On the far east end of the island is R.A. Apffel Park, a white sand beach that hosts numerous concerts, festivals, and events throughout the year. For cycling, running, or walking, visit the 10-mile-long Seawall Urban Park, which is home to the country's longest continuous sidewalk.
