Tonkawa Falls Details

Named after the Native American Tonkawa tribe who lived in the area, this swimming hole has over 300 years of history to discover. During the 1930s, the Civil Conservation Corps was tasked with cleaning up the park and constructing facilities for guests. It was then that they discovered a burial site, as well as petroglyphs that were etched into the banks of the river. Nowadays, the falls are popular for swimming, as the clear waters provide refuge from the heat. There is a steady stream cascading down into the creek, and you'll often find cliff jumpers and diving plummeting off the rocks into the water below.
