Mount Washburn Trails Details
Both favorites of veteran Yellowstone hikers, the two trails that lead to the Mount Washburn summit are pretty, moderately graded trails that provide two very different views. The Dunraven Pass trail, which ascends from the south side, is accessible earlier in the season although snow is sometimes visible in the early summer. This trail offers the best panoramic views of the park, including Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Lake, and the Tetons. The Chittenden Road trail is the most popular, longer route, and uses a number a switchbacks that yield unique views of Granite Range and the Yellowstone Plateau. Both are well maintained and lead to the windswept summit, which has an enclosed observation area for 360 degree views.
