Lost Pines Trail

This trailhead loops through the middle of Bastrop State Park and gives hikers the chance to see numerous ponds, tree-lined forests, and wild animals up close and personal. It is also home to the largest concentration of Houston Toads, an endangered species native to this area of Texas. The hike is roughly 7 miles long and is the perfect mixture of flat paths, downhill trails, and even a bit of rock climbing. Despite the diversity of terrain, this trail is still a moderately easy hike for both beginners and families. Keep in mind sections of the forest have been burned down, which leaves hikers exposed to the harsh elements. If you are hiking in the summer, make sure to bring a hat and sunscreen as the sun beats directly on the trail.
