The Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, founded in 1946, is located in Texas in Grayson County. The refuge has 12,000 acres and is home to quite a few bird species including the Canada geese. In addition to the birds, the refuge is painted with color by the native flowers and grass. The refuge consists of both wetlands and uplands which attracts quite a bit of wildlife. Management works to keep the natural habitats in check for the birds. Families are welcome to the butterfly garden and the educational programs at the refuge. Hunting and fishing are permitted within regulations.
