Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Details

Established in 1937, the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge was founded to aid in the rescue of the endangered Whooping Crane. The refuge is credited with a large part of their revival and has become popular in the country. At the refuge, there is the beautiful Matagorda Island that hosts Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles and alligators. This Texas refuge welcomes pedestrians with foot trails, photographic opportunities, auto tour, and many observational areas for bird-watchers as well as educational opportunities throughout the year.
