Lake Meredith National Recreation Area is a popular destination for residents of the Texas Panhandle as well as out of state visitors, providing rare opportunities for on-the-water activities in a largely dry region. The 10,000-acre Lake Meredith, formed by a dam on the Canadian River, has a marina and five boat ramps, making it ideal for boating as well as swimming and fishing on a lake that has 200-foot cliffs in places. The park, which totals 46,000 acres, also allows camping, horseback riding, ATVing, and hunting. Hikers may see abundant wildlife such as deer and coyotes. The Lake Meredith National Recreation Area headquarters is in Fritch, Texas, and the Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument is adjacent to the park.
