Atlanta State Park Details

Situated on the shores of Wright Patman Lake, the park is comprised of a towering pine forest that offers plenty of wildlife and bird sighting opportunities. The 20,300-acre lake was created in 1953 after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dammed the Sulphur River. It was originally known as Lake Texarkana but was renamed in the 1970s to honor Wright Patman, a longtime congressman from East Texas. The area has a long history of occupation with signs dating back over 12,000 years. The park sits on 1,475-acres along Wright Patman Lake so it's a popular destination for fishing, boating, and water-skiing. The park has 4.8 miles of hiking trails - including a .8-mile nature trail. Camping is available on 58 sites. Canoe rentals are also available. Birders will enjoy the opportunity to see brown-headed nuthatches and pine warblers. Anglers have a chance to catch a crappie, largemouth bass, white bass, and or sunfish.
