Lone Star Geyser Details
With a nearly 9 foot-tall, steep sided cone, this popular geyser has one of the largest cones in Yellowstone National Park. It erupts from one of the main steam vents on the top of the cone. Eruptions consist of two parts; first, it erupts nearly 45 feet in height, lasting for about 5 minutes, and then erupts again, this time for nearly 30 minutes at the same height. Eruptions are generally followed by an extremely loud steam phase that can be heard almost a mile away. These eruptions, which are always preceded by splashing and bubbling water from the cone, occur about every 3 hours.
